Query Critique – Your critique will include an initial review of your query letter with inline comments using Word’s Track Changes feature. This review will include feedback such as an evaluation of your hook, how you present your manuscript, and standard query conventions. The price includes up to two more passes after you’ve had a chance to revise the query. Query letters should be no more than one page; around 250 words.

First Ten Pages Critique – Many agents ask for a short excerpt from a manuscript to get a sense of whether it’s a good fit for them. A critique of your first ten pages will include inline comments on topics such as hook, voice, and pacing.

First Three Chapters Critique – When determining whether to ask to see a full manuscript, agents will often request the first three chapters to get a sense of the book as a whole. A critique of your first three chapters (up to fifty pages) will include inline comments on topics such as voice, character development, and narrative arc. You will also receive written feedback (roughly 250-500 words) in the form of a letter that summarizes the manuscript’s strengths and opportunities for improvement.

Whole Manuscript Critique – This critique will provide holistic feedback on your manuscript. While I may point out misspellings and grammar errors occasionally, this critique will focus on elements of craft such as plot, character development, pacing, and narrative arc. (If you would benefit from hiring a professional proofreader, I will let you know, but I can’t provide that service.) You will receive inline comments and written feedback (roughly 500-1000 words) in the form of a letter that summarizes the manuscript’s strengths and opportunities for improvement.

Under 60,000 words: $2400
60,000 – 80,000 words: $3200
Over 80,000 words: $0.04 (four cents) per word
All word counts will be calculated using the Word Count feature in Microsoft Word.
Payment
Payments will be accepted via Paypal invoice* and are due upon receipt of that invoice for all services except for a Whole Manuscript Critique.
For a Whole Manuscript Critique, half of the total will be due before I begin. The other half will be due upon completion of the critique, before I send along your feedback.
If more than a week passes after I send your invoice and I don’t hear from you or receive your payment, I’ll assume that you’ve chosen not to pursue a critique from me and I’ll move on to the next project in the queue.
* You don’t need to have a Paypal account to pay a Paypal invoice. You will have the option to use a regular credit or debit card.
