THE WICKED AND THE JUST by J. Anderson Coats
1293. North Wales. Ten years into English rule.
Cecily would give anything to leave Caernarvon and go home. Gwenhwyfar would give anything to see all the English leave.
Neither one is going to get her wish.
Behind the city walls, English burgesses govern with impunity. Outside the walls, the Welsh are confined by custom and bear the burden of taxation, and the burgesses plan to keep it that way.
Cecily can’t be bothered with boring things like the steep new tax or the military draft that requires Welshmen to serve in the king’s army overseas. She has her hands full trying to fit in with the town’s privileged elite, and they don’t want company.
Gwenhwyfar can’t avoid these things. She counts herself lucky to get through one more day, and service in Cecily’s house is just salt in the wound.
But the Welsh are not as conquered as they seem, and the suffering in the countryside is rapidly turning to discontent. The murmurs of revolt may be Gwenhwyfar’s only hope for survival – and the last thing Cecily ever hears.

The book sounds wonderful! I love history. I think Edgar Allen Poe would probably fit in pretty well. I know he wasn’t around THAT long ago, but I’m sure he’d fit right in with an “Emo” crowd. Or perhaps just at any local bar. 🙂
I honestly have no idea. I have always been fascinated with Anastasia Romanov.
Oh that is a hard question since all of my favorite historical figures would definitely stand out. I honestly have no idea. Maybe Ghandi? We kind of need more peaceful people in the world, I think he would do a lot of good if he were around still.

Fist person who popped into my head was Sherlock Holmes, but if we are talking about real people then maybe Jesus 🙂
I think Benjamin Franklin would fit in well in 2012. He could adapt to the changes in modern society and he would love the women of today!

And thinking of Medieval I come to a movie I love and a an actor I think was too young to go early and I believe he would be even better and of course more attractive now. Sir Heath Ledger himself…. sigh R.I.P. 🙁

Okay, I’m not sure how well he’s do with ‘fitting in’ but he is amazingly awesome and I’m sure he could write some amazing poems about the modern-day world. Plus I may get a chance to meet him and squee about his awesomeness!
Abraham Lincoln would fit in. He was willing to to try new technology (the telegraph), didn’t have a problem speaking his mind, and being different.

I think and it’s bad to say but Jack the Ripper would. Think of how many unsolved cases there is now days.

I think Sherlock Holmes would fit best in our present day. But I could just think that because I’m obsessed with the BBC show!
I love historical fictions like this. My daughters and I have recently been learning about Ada Lovelace, credited with creating the first computer program (before computers were actually created). Her father was Lord Byron (yes, the poet), but never saw her after infancy. But she was incredibly educated, amazing at math and well-connected and respected by those in Victorian England. I think her ability to feel worthy amongst men and not subservient and the fact that her love and passion for numbers would aid her in pushing beyond the culture shock of our modern world. That is of course if she lands in England or America, not if she happens to be transported to somewhere like Uganda or Haiti.

I think Amelia Earhart. She was an amazing woman who pushed the envelope. I think she would do awesome at coming up to speed and continuing her crusades to do more.

I personally think Leonardo Da Vinci would fit in 2012. He was already so ahead of his time back then, and it would be interesting to see him adapt to 2012. Which thought couldn’t he have, based on modern technology? We could perhaps become way more advanced with his mind at work. And not only was he a brilliant inventor, he was also a creative and fantastic artist – bringing him to 2012 could be very interesting.
Honestly, I don’t have any idea. I’ve always thought of who from this century would do better in the future instead of the other way around.
Always loved Anastasia Romanov’s history, I think Benjamin Franklin would be great with the technology, and I would love to meet Queen Victoria.
Geez, this is kind of a tough question.
I’d go with Queen Victoria, I think she was a great role model and a great example for woe¿men, surely she could take anything… maybe, LOL.

Definitely Einstein because he was a genius and I’m sure he’d be able to make a huge contribution now, furthering everything he’s done.
Also Anne Boleyn. I think she was strong and smart, and I think lots of countries would benefit from having her in a leadership position.

I think Plato would fit in to 2012 most. He was an ancient philosopher who believed that goodness was an inherent human trait, and fought for freedom. He was also among the first to record and consider morality and ethics. The United States is a production of the ideas that many people, including Plato, contributed to. America created a wave of freedom around the world, and I believe that if Plato could exist in this world today, he would agree with many of the dominant ideas of this time, and speak out, or contribute, on many issues without the fear of persecution that was rampant in those times.

While I don’t know if they’d fit in best, I would love to see Thomas Edison around again – to see what he would invent once familiar with modern technology. I do think he could think of some great things.
